There was a time when large areas of the country used to down tools and stop work. Not for any sinister or unscrupulous reason, that's just what used to happen when large industries that were concentrated in specific locations around the country took their summer holidays.
It seems like a long time ago now. The idea of vast swathes of the working population all taking a two week break just doesn't happen any more. The need to keep production going 24 hours a day, 7 days a week can be the difference between surviving or not.
So holiday patterns have changed as a result and now many people find themselves falling into line with shift patterns and production schedules and picking up any spare holiday time they can wherever and whenever they can. The two week trip abroad may no longer be possible but there are alternatives that can be equally as rewarding or more so in some cases.
The holiday industry has had to fall in line this growing demand from consumers to accommodate their changing holiday habits and as a result, short breaks, long weekends, short term car insurance and special family attraction tickets have now become the norm rather than the exception. So now if you want to grab three or four long weekends away with the family - or maybe you have to - rather than take one long fortnight a year, it's not just an option, it's an attractive proposition.
UK Breaks - All predictions seem to indicate that there will be more people holidaying at home than ever in the next few years. As time and money become more precious the necessity to spend less time travelling and less money once you reach your destination will become more and more important.

For something a little different you still don't have to look too far. Ireland has seen massive improvements in all areas over the last few years including its tourist industry. There are regular ferries to the Emerald Isle but if time is precious then there's only one way to travel; by air.
Ireland Breaks - After landing at one of Ireland's airports it's a simple process to organize short term car insurance and hire. With eleven large airports across the country there is no part that cannot be reached in a few hours and no part that cannot be explored to its fullest. Ireland is well know for its beautiful countryside and coastline, from the Ring of Kerry to the Giant's Causeway, there are some amazing places waiting to be discovered.
European Breaks - For the more adventurous most European capital cities are now very accessible from the UK via budget travel airlines. Organizing short term car insurance and hire at your destination then frees you up to discover some of the most famous landmarks in the world; The Eiffel Tower, The Vatican and the modern architecture of Barcelona are all waiting to be discovered.
