In a lot of cases parents often want to teach their children how to be responsible and how to get ready for the real world but, they simply do not know how to go about something like this. Of course chores are a good way but, they are children and you should remember that through fun activities children often seem to learn more than through something boring like chores. Recently I found out about something called virtual pet adoption or VPA which allows your child to actually "adopt" pets online. Of course these pets aren't real but with thanks to the technology available today your child can adopt "electronic" or "digital" pets. The nice thing about these pets is that there is no limit as to what you can do with them; feed them, play, walk, bath and even take care of them when they are sick. This could lead to wonderful results with your child or a child you may know. If you are new to the virtual pet adoption websites, it is important to familiarize yourself with all the different types of websites that are out there.

Many virtual pet adoption websites offer different options and things you can do with your pet, so you want to make sure to find a website that fits everything you need. If you do want to try something like this, simply find a pet adoption website online and sign your child up. After you sign up you will be asked to "create" your pet by choosing what animal you want as well as it's coloring and its clothes (if your child chooses to do that). These virtual pet adoption websites are not only an essential tool for any parent trying to teach their children about accountability, but it is also a great lesson for the child if they are begging you for a puppy. Often children don't realize how much responsibility it takes to take care of a real pet. And with the virtual pet adoption option they will realize for the most part what it would be like to have a real pet. The main difference with a real pet versus a digital pet is that if your child gets tired of taking care of the pet its less problems for you the parent.

In some cases when parents do buy a child a real pet and the child gets sick of "taking care" of the pet you need to arrange for adoption or selling of the pet. Frankly I think the digital option isn't just a good thing for your child but for the sake of a could be real pet as well. This is also a good "test" for your child as well because chances are if they take good care of a virtual pet, then they probably will take care of a real pet. In the end this is a great option for responsibility but it can also teach your child other things as well such as love, tenderness and accountability for themselves as well as others.
