There probably is not a person in the world that hasn't experienced back pain at some point in their lives. At any given time, at least 20% of the population suffers from lower back pain, and at least 80% of all adults will feel back pain at least once. Many people that do have chronic back pain have tried every treatment and remedy available, only to discover that nothing seems to work to control their aches and pains.
Before you can come up with a form of treatment for your back pain, you need to identify the root of the pain. As a rule, most back pains are caused by sprains and strains and will not take long to heal. Other people suffer from chronic back pain and think that long-term treatment may be necessary. This is not necessarily the case.
So, why do we get sprains and strains in our muscles? There are many things that can cause back pain, including poor posture, injuries and overuse, which are the things that cause the sprains and strains. The less active a person is, the more prone they may be to getting these types of injuries, and the longer it will take to heal from any type of sprains and strains.
Another major source of back pain is disc problems, which are often caused by muscle imbalances. When there is an imbalance, the disc is feeling pressure that isn't meant to be put on it. One problem this can cause in the lower back is sciatica, where sufferers feel pain going down their leg due to increased pressure on the sciatic nerve. Many people these days are reporting pain from osteoarthritis, which can be an extremely painful condition. Unlike rheumatoid arthritis, which only affects a percentage of the population, the majority of people will experience some form of osteoarthritis by the time they are middle-aged.
There are many people who, although unknowingly, are receiving the wrong types of treatment for their back pain. For instance, if the pain is caused by a muscle problem, a chiropractor who works with bones will not be of much help. The same goes with surgery and certain drugs. Often, what a person really needs is exercise, even though many may feel that this kind of a cure causes more pain (and it may initially, but the benefits will more than outweigh those first few hours of pain in a huge way).
Most people who suffer from back pain do not need to be suffering. They just need to know the right type of treatment for them, which should include "getting hands-on with the body" and having a healthy, balanced lifestyle and diet. In fact, some forms of exercising can actually do more harm than good.
