With many large corporations and data centres, comes a demand for up-to-date systems and equipment, for the efficient running of their server rooms. Every server must be kept in cool conditions, which is many server rooms feel uncomfortably cold. As the machines are running on a twenty four hour basis the units will generally heat up more quickly and simply adding a fan is not enough to keep the temperature low. The room itself must be kept cool by adding air conditioners and ventilations in the server cabinets.

A data cabinet is ideal for keeping the servers protected and further allowing the heat to escape. Using a data cabinet ensures the smooth running and organisation of the server room, making it easier for networking specialists to define and distinguish each server machine. Anyone unfamiliar with server rooms will not notice a difference in each machine and how they are racked, however the technical specialist will be able to determine each component, and maintain the equipment accordingly in a tidy fashion.

It is important when setting up or maintaining server rooms that the data cabinet used is of the correct size and provides the protection needed for the machine to run smoothly. Most data cabinets can be available in 600 - 800mm width and 900 - 1000 mm depth, which is a standard size to fit normal server machines. Other sizes are available for taller rack mounted servers and further allows good cable management.

In order to keep the servers running with as little or no problems, it is important that they are stored safely and neatly in the cabinets. Any evidence of knocks or sudden motion can cause a disruption in the way that it functions especially if they are being moved around a lot. Often this can cause breakage eventually leading to the servers not working as well they would have done when they were first installed. In cases such as the data cabinet would need to be strong enough to act as a shock absorber protecting the servers of any unpredicted occurrences.

All cabinets are designed to be user friendly, in that it allows efficient deployment of the server. Some will even have the extra protection of using a lock and key system, safeguarding it from theft or vandalism. As these hold vital information and act as a backup system for most companies, it is important that every effort and emphasis is placed on keeping the server rooms free from problems and troubleshoot accordingly.

Another important feature to look out for when selecting a good quality data cabinet is its vented cover. These are popularly used by large conglomerate corporations because they are more or less self- sufficient and have enclosures for the easy instalment of server and audio server. It also adds to the further cooling of the servers, circulating air away and preventing dust and other foreign particles from being trapped inside. Other cabinets can be shared between other users; these are known as co location cabinets. Similar to a normal cabinet they are good for cable management and easy access to the servers, and are ideal for movable server equipment.
