In the current economic climate there are news stories on TV every day of businesses closing down and people being laid off. It makes for pretty grim viewing. As a direct consequence the employment market is becoming saturated by people looking to get back into full time employment as soon as possible. Not since the dark days of the late eighties have so many people been looking for work outside their normal skill sets; people are even considering relocating to get back into employment because there is no prospect of getting work locally.

Every major town and city in the UK has seen an increase in the number of people applying for any jobs that are advertised. One city council recently experienced over one thousand applications for about thirty positions in the local refuse collection department. But London jobs, it seems, are the most sought after with many people saying they would either move to the area or consider commuting long distances if they were offered one of the London jobs that they have applied for.

In a recession the capital city is always the place that people look towards in the hope of getting employment. Because it is the most economically prosperous area in the country, supporting many different industry sectors and businesses people automatically consider it the best place to look for a break back into work. To a degree it is true but London jobs are just as hard to come by as there are more people looking for them.

The thing that looking for London jobs has going for it, as opposed to looking for jobs anywhere else in the country, is the number different industry sectors that are available to search in. Pretty much any skill or description of jobs comes up in a search for London jobs. In other parts of the country sometimes the availability is limited, for instance some areas have a wealth of factory positions and nothing else and others have lots of service industry positions.

Catering and hospitality - London is by far the biggest and busiest business centre in the country. With so many people working in the city each day it goes without saying that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of fast food outlets catering for breakfasts, lunches and dinners. There are always plenty of London jobs in this area as it has a high turnover rate of staff.

Another side to the food and catering industry which is particularly prevalent in London is hospitality. There are many well known conference venues and business meeting facilities in the capital and most are used the whole year round. Large catering companies meet the needs of these centres and require trained and non trained people all year round. London jobs including chefs, silver service waiters and waitresses and cleaners all crop up at regular intervals in this sector.

Leisure and tourism - Outside of The City, with it's bankers and dealers trading in stocks and shares, the second biggest money spinner in the capital in tourism. London attracts millions of visitors reach year and there are always London jobs available to deal with the needs of these visitors. From tour guides to assistants in the cities many museums and galleries, the tourist industry is a large employer in London.

Entertainment - Some of the most sought after London jobs are those in entertainment. London is home to several football clubs, a thriving theatre industry and there are always top bands and artists playing at the capital's top venues. Jobs in this area range from ticket collectors to lighting and sound engineers and attract a large number of people trying to get a foot in the door of the entertainment industry as well as those looking for regular employment.
