Blogging your book is an excellent way to organize and develop that book that you were thinking about writing but have not started because you are at a loss about how to get it together.
Blogging your book is also an excellent method to market the book you have already written and you want it to get more attention but you have no clue about how to do that without spending money you do not have.
If you are a health professional, a consultant, speaker or a director of a non-profit organization and have a book in the making or have already put one together on your area of expertise, think about blogging your book.
For those of you new to blogging, the word blog is short for web log. It is an easy and fast way to publish content on the Internet. A blog is like a website where you can easily publish content without being a geek. It is a website but the blogging software is created in a very simple and is very user friendly so that anyone who can type can publish on a blog. You do not need a web designer.
I use TypePad as my blogging platform because it is very flexible, has good support, and costs me about $15 a month to operate. I have 4 different blogs on my one account. I consider that an inexpensive way to publish and market myself.
I am also learning how to use the Word Press platform which is free but requires more technical know how. Blogger is another free service and is very good if you are just getting started with blogging. Keep in mind, however, that it does not have as many features as the others such as linking in and out and connecting with people.
Blogs are good because Search Engines love them because they are content rich. There are not many graphics. You can add a banner and photos of your products, Because you post 2 or three times a week on your blog, there is always fresh content, and search engines love that.
A blog that does well with search engines is the one that is very focused on a very specific niche or subject. Since your book probably focuses on your area of expertise, your blog will focus on that same niche. Your goal is to attract people who have an interest in that topic. That means the posts to your blog are likely to have keyword rich content because you are writing specifically about your work, your case studies, your clients, and your solutions.
Active blogs usually post at least twice a week and it is common to see short postings of 200 to 300 words posted three and four times a week. This fresh content alerts the search engines to come back each time and index your content over and over. That does not happen with a static website.
Blogs also have the potential of raising your visibility with clients and customers because it provides a way that your clients can directly communicate with you when they write comments on your blog.
