Wicked, the Musical is one of the biggest phenomenons on Broadway, today, and that is no small thing. The musical has continued to play to almost full capacity after more than five years worth of shows on Broadway and around the world. This incredible show is not only a great theatrical experience, but it has almost become an icon for our decade. Like the book that it is based on, the show addresses social and moral issues without any outright confrontation of controversial issues. It is, in a nutshell a discourse on public thought, through fiction.

The most popular show on the stage for the last five years, Wicked tickets bring to life the Land of Oz in a way that you have never seen it before. It is a great story based on the land first created by L. Frank Baum at the beginning of the 20th Century, and is continuing a long tradition in literature and entertainment that has carried on since then. This musical version is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, who has become one of the most famous writers on the market with his unconventional renditions of children's fairytales. The stories that Maguire tells turn fairytales on their heads, and this is not the least of all true of Wicked.
In Wicked we see the back story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch, in detail that is both astounding and deeply appealing. The musical presents these two characters in a new light, revealing a depth to their background that has not been seen before. Written as a response/predecessor to the movie version of the Wizard of Oz, which was released in 1939 starring Judy Garland, the musical tells the story of how the Wicked Witch came to be. In the musical we learn that the Wicked Witch of the West was not always the frightening figure that cackled away on the broomstick. In fact, by the musical's end we realize that things may not ever have been as they seemed.

The Wicked Witch of the West was actually a girl named Elphaba, who had a brilliant mind but was unfortunate enough to be born with green skin. Glinda the Good Witch, was actually a beautiful blond girl whose name, until well into the first act, is actually Galinda. In fact, we discover in Glinda a girl who is rather worryingly obsessed with popularity and has very far-reaching ambitions. The truth about the Wicked Witch, according to the musical, is not as black and white as it seems in the original story of the Wizard of Oz. The musical tells the tale of the two girls and their unexpected friendship. It is a saga of bravery, strength of character, and the ability to fly in the face of society and stand up for what you believe to be right. Tickets are currently available at StubHub but be sure to act fast as the tickets for this show sell out quickly. Wicked will be launching its second national tour for this year in March, so look for tickets coming available in your own city!
