To Kill a Mocking Bird is a play based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee, who won the award in 1961. The story may have been partially inspired by the historically notorious "Scottsboro Boys" trials, which took place in the 1930s. The narrative, as it unfolds onstage, is one of passion and a search for justice, it is a great American story that is taught in many, if not all, of the schools in the United States. To Kill a Mocking Bird tickets are a great way to understand the story from a new angle, and it is coming to the stage in Austin, Texas, in March!

Harper Lee was born Nelle Harper Lee on April 28, 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama. The youngest of four children, her father was Amasa Colman Lee and her mother was Frances Finch Lee. Harper atteneded Huntington College from 1944 to 1945, and then went on study law at the University of Alabama from 1945-1949, she also spent one year at Oxford University. When she graduated she worked first as a reservation clerk and then at the East Air Lines and BOAC in New York. She eventually left her job to focus on writing, but To Kill a Mocking Bird is the only book she has ever published.

The book was made into a movie and released in 1962, starring Gregory Peck as the unswerving Atticus Finch, John Megna played Charles Baker 'Dill' Harris, and Frank Overton was Sheriff Heck Tate. Other characters included Rosemary Murphy as Maudie Atkinson, Ruth White as Mrs. Dubose, and Brock Peters playing Tim Robinson. The parts of the two children, Scout and Jem, were played by Mary Badham and Philip Alford. Other roles included were Estelle Evans as Calpurnia, Paul Fix as Judge Taylor, Collin Wilcox Paxton as Mayella Violet Ewell, James Anderson as Robert E. Lee 'Bob' Ewell, Alisce Ghostly as Aunt Stephanie Crawford and Robert Duvall giving an excellent performance as Arthur 'Boo' Radley. The movie won three Oscar Awards and was nominated for a total of eight.

To Kill A Mockingbird is about a trial that takes place in an Alabama town and how the trial and the lives of some of the townsfolk are interconnected. The story is told through the eyes of Scout, defense lawyer, Atticus Finch's daughter. It is about a young black man who is falsely accused of violently attacking an ignorant white woman. As the town members turn away from the truth through their own prejudice, Atticus's children are fascinated by Boo Radley, a shut-in who lives not far from their house. Suspecting that Boo is insane, the children are afraid of him. But eventually they will have to face their fear when they are confronted with an evil born of ignorance and blind hatred. The two themes are brilliant set against each other in this brilliant work of fiction by an amazing author, and the live show is a must-see event that you will not want to miss. Be sure to get your To Kill a Mocking Bird tickets while they are still available online.
