When getting prepared for a sales presentation or dropping by to introduce yourself to a prospect, you always try to put your best foot forward. You practice your sales pitch until its perfect, you make sure your appearance is professional and pleasant, and then you walk in there and give 100% effort through your presentation. If you’re really fortunate, you close a deal, but more often than not you’re asked to leave a business card and wait to be contacted.
Here’s the point where your business card, or any other marketing materials you leave with them, can make or break the deal. Your business card usually ends up in the same place other business cards given to them end up, either the trash or the business card organizer. Plain white ones that look like everyone else’s usually end up in the trash. When they do make it into the organizer they are placed next to other plain cards and tend to blend in. Neither fate is helping you stand out in their minds.
The same logic can be applied to direct mail pieces. You spend a lot of time tweaking your marketing message and spend a lot of money to print and mail them out to a targeted prospect base. Are your prospects more likely to look at a plain paper postcard with black and white print, or a vibrantly colorful glossy one?
Using high quality printing and thick paper combined with an eye catching design can give you an edge that prospects can see and feel.
Another surefire way to stand out is to depart from the conventional. USB Thumb Drives make great business cards when printed with your contact information. Not only are you getting your contact information to the prospect, but you’re giving them a useful tool that will encourage them to hang on to it. For an added bonus you can upload a video, offline version of your website, or flash presentation on it that will surpass the efforts of business cards and brochures combined.
Business card shaped CD’s and DVD’s are also great. They stand out just like a USB Drive, can be printed in vibrant full color like a business card, sized to fit a business card holder, and can hold digital info and presentations.
