Art is everywhere; I know that much from experience and information. It is not so much as to the degree that it is shown or displayed in this world than its relativity. Art is anything that one might consider beautiful or moving; since beauty is relative, art is also relative. Indeed, different people see different forms of art differently. Some may consider something an art, and some might consider it not. For one person, something may be beautiful. For another, it may be ugly.
How one person can define whether something is beautiful or not depends on that persons perceptions, beliefs and previous experiences? For a community, society or country, with a group or subgroups of people expressing or sharing the same beliefs and values, the artwork is often the reflection of their culture. The African wall art, for instance, is the perfect example of expressing culture through art.
Somehow, the term wall art makes me think of those embedded drawings in caves or structures of ancient times that I often see in movies and pictures. These drawings usually tell a story. I remember one such drawing on a picture I have seen of a wall during historic times. The drawing was of a group of people bringing spears and seemingly aimed at something. The book containing the picture explained that it was a story of a battle.
At that time, I saw no significant reason for them to have drawn it up on a wall. As my understanding of history became deeper, however, I realized that perhaps it was their way of keeping their story alive for many generations after they were dead. So what constitutes this type of artistry? It is as simple and as complicated as putting the thoughts that would create a story as well as portray beauty.
Understanding African culture through art
More often than not, we come to appreciate an artwork when we come to understand how it was done and with what basis it was done. When we talk about the people of Africa, their artistic creations in palisades are based on their culture. And often, these creations can be used to decorate our homes or other structures. Artistry from Africa is usually a very good way to complement or enhance a room that has an elegant or sophisticated feel to it. This is because African wall decor can usually complement European styles of decor. African style decor that can be embedded or carved into a surround structure will most likely spice up the room.
Because the culture of Africa has always been known to express their work through colorful pieces of outputs, this type of wall decor will certainly bring about an air of festivity. They usually also attach a type of story to their works, so you also have the added advantage of putting on display works that are embedded not only with beauty, but also with meaning. African wall art is great way to furnish your room with beauty and elegance.
