Although people in previous generations often worked within one industry for their entire working lives, that does not have to be the case today, unless you want it to be. Many people in previous generations sought careers as a means of providing stability. Many people today, however, enjoy the notion that they can change jobs when it suits them. It is important to remember to do what is best for you rather than what is best according to some societal notion.

If you are going to change jobs - or change careers, as the case may be - you should avail yourself of every possible way to make your job search easier and more productive. In this technological age, job searches are not limited to newspaper want ads. The internet makes it possible for you to search the world over as you seek the employment opportunity that is perfect for you.
If you are uncertain about how to begin, seek out employment counselors or similar resources. Many communities have free resources through community centers or other local philanthropic organizations. Take full advantage of all available assistance.
How confidential is your situation?
If your situation is confidential, it can be difficult to resist sharing details of your job search with family and friends. If your situation is not confidential, remember that family members and friends can be great resources to you at this time. Someone might offer to forward your resume to a friend while another person might tell you about a helpful new job search site. This type of assistance can be invaluable, especially because it reminds you that you are not alone. They can provide support, advice, assistance, and more; if it is possible, let them do so.
