It would seem that life tends to throw all kinds of obstacles at everyone and every day. You can never predict what oddities may occur to you and those around you. When you own your own house and have a family, this can seem rather daunting and worrying. But investing in some decent property insurance can at least give the biggest worriers something less to worry about. Even the modern day celebrity has to contend with accidents that happen and have to make sure they are well insured to avoid a complete disaster!
Famous rock icon, Ozzy Osborne and his family seem to have had much bad luck since purchasing their Buckinghamshire estate. Ozzy had a serious quad biking accident back in 2003 and the family were also burgled the following year - the thieves managed to take off with over 2 million pounds of jewellery stolen. Another disaster that struck more recently to the rock 'n' roll family was Easter 2005 when a fire broke out in the living room of the house and both Sharon and Ozzy had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Kerry Katona in 2007 also had a personal disaster when she was held at knife point by armed robbers. The masked men entered the house with crowbars and sledgehammers and broke into her 1.2 million home in Cheshire. Kerry was held downstairs with her baby whilst her husband Mark Croft was taken around the house with burglars looking for items to steal. The thieves managed to take off with over 150,000 pounds worth of goods and a BMW M5 sports car, luckily the family were unhurt.
Even American celebrities can escape the unpredictable nature of fate. Lost actress Evangeline Lily's home in Hawaii was destroyed by a fire just days before Christmas 2006. Luckily no-one was in the house at the time the fire broke out but after an electrical outlet started a blaze on the house's porch by the time the fire services arrived only the roof was standing. The damage caused to the property was calculated at a pricey 125,000 pounds and the contents within 25,000 pounds, proving yet again that property insurance is invaluable.
Actress Drew Barrymore has also suffered from cruel fate when in 2001 her Los Angeles home caught alight. Luckily for the actress she was woken up by her pet dog clawing at her door when the fire started. By the time the fire services arrived the house and the hillsides next to it were completely on fire, which took sixty fire fighters almost an hour to put out and cost insurance a hefty 350,000 pounds worth of damage.
Lastly, another actress Sandra Bullock also suffered damage to her Texas house in 2004. The mansion that had been restored in the late nineties had huge leakages and faulty wiring. Sandra took her builder to court for the damage that had been caused and her lawyers demanded that the company responsible pay for some of the new fittings that had to be added. Sandra won the case in 2005 and was awarded 3.5 million pounds for the damage.
So whether you are a huge celebrity in a massive mansion or a mere mortal you cannot escape the nature of fate and accidents. It just highlights the importance of making sure all your property insurance is up to date and that you are getting the best deal possible. Losing a home is awful enough without then finding out you are uninsured for whatever damage occurs.
