Othello is returning to the stage after only a month break for a limited run in April. Theatre for a New Audience made their mark on the Off-Broadway stage through March and after just a month of vacation will return in April for second stint. The William Shakespeare adapted play, directed by Arin Arbus, stars John Douglas Thompson in the title role. The show first began previews on February 14th and opened February 22nd, so if you missed out on the performance back then, check out Othello tickets to get your chance to see the performance live today.

The original cast is all ready for the return to The Duke on 42nd Street, revisiting their roles April 15-24 at the same venue, according to a production spokesperson. Along with Thompson, who has appeared in Oroonoko and Cyrano de Bergerac (the role made famous by Kevin Kline), Ned Eisenberg (Oliver Twist, Awake and Sing) as Iago, Juliet Rylance (Bash: Latterday Plays - London's West End) as Desdemona, Kate Forbes (The Merchant of Venice) as Emilia and Lucas Hall (All's Well That Ends Well) as Cassio, also joined him on stage. The company includes Denis Butkus (The Coast of Utopia), Robert Langdon Lloyd (Amadeus), Elizabeth Meadows Rouse (Comedy of Errors), Christian Rummel (Antony & Cleopatra), Alexander Sovronsky (Cyrano) and Graham Winton (Don Juan).

When the play first reopened in February, Arbus said, "Othello will open four weeks after Barack Obama's inauguration, making February 2009 an interesting time to explore Shakespeare's great tragedy about a black leader in a white society. The play depicts a culture, not unlike our own, that both promotes diversity and undermines it." The Theatre for a New Audience's website says something similar, mainly, "At this historic moment in American history, Theatre for a New Audience is presenting Shakespeare's great tragedy about a black leader in a predominantly white society.

Othello depicts a culture, not unlike our own, that both promotes diversity and undermines it, a culture where Christians and Muslims are deeply divided. As Othello progresses, Shakespeare shifts the focus from the enemy outside to the enemy within. Although the backdrop is political, Othello is a domestic tragedy about the formation and destruction of a marriage."

The Theatre for a New Audience was founded in 1979 by Jeffrey Horowitz, who created the venue as a place to "help develop and vitalize the performance and study of Shakespeare and classic drama," according to its website. Continuously working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, as the first American company invited among such legends, has helped the company gained loads of press and attention, from constant collaborations with major artists like Mark Rylance, Julie Taymor and Sir Peter Hall, as well as awards that span from the Lortel, Drama Desk, Drama League Awards to the OBIE and Tony Awards.

Currently under construction is the company's first permanent home, located in the BAM Cultural Distract of downtown Brooklyn, with architects Frank Gehry and Hugh Hardy designing.

Aside from great theatre, the Theatre for a New Audience provides New York City's Public School's with the greatest source for Shakespearean work and development; since 1984 TFANA offers a wide variety of options for schools to learn and take part in their shows.
