For budding young entrepreneurs and inventors, sometimes the road from idea from concept to production is a long hard one with many hurdles along the way, not to mention an initial outlay of finances in order to get a project off the ground.

We have all seen or at least heard of the TV program Dragons Den, Dragons Den is a gateway for afore mentioned inventors and entrepreneurs to present their ideas and concepts in high hopes or obtaining financial backing as well as invaluable marketing knowledge and expertise in order to see their product reach the market.

The Dragons are a group of investors who have already successfully hit the big time with their own products or services and are lucky enough to now be basking in the glory of having themselves become millionaires with money to invest in other products, services or companies in return for a market share of the company, this usually equates to a substantial cut of the equity in the venture. Dragons Den is aimed at finding products and services which have got the right potential to make it further than the drawing board.

This sounds quite an easy task, have an idea, draw a few sketches, hey presto presentation complete for Dragons Den, this could not be further from the truth and in reality the process which all inventors have to go through is a long and hard one which in a lot of cases sees the many products failing long before the Dragons Den becomes a reality.

Most entrepreneurs having done their homework will know that there are steps which have to be taken in order to ready a product or idea into a suitable format which makes it viable, however help is at hand. There are companies out there which for a fee can help guide inventors through the minefield of protecting their intellectual property (concept) this is just the very first step, applying for patents, design registration, trademarks and copyright. All of these are essential to safeguard your idea from being copied.

After sorting out the intellectual property rights and details most ideas are still just a concept or a few drawings which have been scribbled together as a rough guide of what the product of service is. This again is where a company who have the development skills can help to bring your product from planning to prototype in a bid to test the product viability or to address issues which may not have been thought of in concept stages.

Once this is successfully completed the product can be prepared for production, allowing testing in the real market place to occur before investment can be made. As we have all seen Dragons Den is not a venture to go into without having done your research, as the Dragons test your knowledge of your chosen market place, and your product including whether you have obtained patents, unit costs, production costs and so on and so forth.

However not everyone chooses to take the root of the Dragons Den in order to market a project, with the right knowledge and preparation there are schemes out there which can assist in the financing of new ventures. So knowing your products and the steps to go through to reach the market are essential and with help from independent companies who specialise in patenting and copyright laws those steps to success could be a little closer than you think.
