The 39 Steps tickets are currently available for you as they combine Alfred Hitchock, a juicy spy novel and Monty Python all in one extraordinary event. The story opens with a man whose life is incredibly dull and tedious, so he decides to attend the theatre in search of something that is mindless, trivial and pointless. He enjoys himself until he meets a woman who claims to be a spy. He takes her home to his apartment, where she is murdered. It is not long before he finds a secretive organization called the 39 Steps is hot on his trail. He soon finds himself to be the focal point of a nation-wide manhunt.
This wildly humorous comedy is a great event that you are certain to enjoy. Based the Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name, which in turn was based on the novel by John Buchan, this is one performance that you do not want to miss. Buchan published his novel in 1915. It was a much more serious affair than the comedy that is on stage today. Brilliantly written it is still one of Buchan's most famous works. Other works of fiction by Buchan are: Greenmantle, Huntingtower, Mr. Standfast, Prester John, Salute to Adventures, The Half-Hearted, The Moon Endureth: Tales and Fancies, and The Path of the King.
Hitchcock's film was released on August 1, 1935, a little less than five years before Buchan's death. The film starred Robert Donat in the part of main character Richard Hanny, playing alongside him were Madeleine Carroll, Lucie Mannheim, Godfrey Tearl, Peggy Ashcroft, John Laurie, and Helen Haye to name a few. The film was a brilliant Hitchcock thriller, released towards the middle of his career which began with Number 13 in 1922 and ended with Family Plot in 1976.
The play on Broadway is brilliantly put together, as the many characters in the play are played by only four people. In the part of Richard Hannay is Sean Mahon; Francesca Faridany plays the female parts of Annabel Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret; the rest of the characters are played by Jeffery Kuhn and Arnie Burton. The set of the play consists of brilliantly put-together arrangements of furniture, wonderfully orchestrated by Kuhn and Burton as they turn unexpectedly becomes all sorts of landscapes and surfaces, including the top of a train.
The 39 Steps is based on a concept originated by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon, adapted from John Buchan's book and Alfred Hitchcock's film by Patrick Barlow. It is currently the longest-running comedy on Broadway, making it also one of the most popular shows currently playing. The show has managed to beat the odds by continuing to play to large crowds despite the fact that many plays are beginning to see a decline in attendance. This is a play that you will not want to miss, but shows are often sold out, so make sure you go online for your tickets to see The 39 Steps at the Helen Hayes Theatre today!
