Dane Cook was born on March 18, 1972 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His family including his six siblings, are Irish Catholic, and as a child he would entertain his family with his stand-up comedy. Two of his favorite comedians growing up were Bill Cosby and Johnny Carson. He landed his first appearance on Comedy Central's Premium Blend in 1998, after working the comedy circuit for eight years. The appearance was the first of many, and marked his rise to fame. His first comedy album Harmful if Swallowed was released in 2003 and went double platinum, making it the most successful comedy album since Steve Martin's A Wild and Crazy Guy was released in 1978. Cook's movie and television career began two years prior to his appearance on Premium Blend with re-occurring appearances as the character Kyle in Maybe This Time, a character who appeared in five episodes between 1995 and 1996. Recently, in 2007, he played the part of Mitch Burns, the younger brother to main character Dan in Dan in Real Life, playing opposite Steve Carell.
