Will An Antenna Work In The Attic?

Antennas are reliable pieces of technology and continue to remain popular even though a lot of people have moved on to seemingly better methods of watching TV. Some might consider it a little old-fashioned, but what's old is new, and the fact that antennas are still around and being used is a testament to their productivity. So if you have decided to join the millions of other people who are already using an antenna, then you can enjoy not having to pay any monthly fees and getting local channels in high-definition, granted that you have a HDTV.

Finding the right antenna for your place might seem like a daunting task at first. After doing a search on the internet and browsing through the antenna aisle at your local electronics store, you'll see that there's more to it than just picking up any random box and expecting for it to work great. You have to take certain factors into consideration, such as where you live and what type of antenna will be best for your location. You will have to determine where you will install your antenna. You have three locations to choose from: indoors on your tabletop, outdoors on your roof or on the side of your wall, or in your attic.

The last place mentioned is not a common place to put it, but some people love the idea of having the antenna out of mind and out of sight. While some antenna enthusiasts will not recommend that you put an antenna in the attic, the fact remains that it does work for some people. Not all are successful with an attic installation, however, for various reasons. First, the attic is a small place, so fitting yourself in there to mount it, let alone having an antenna standing at its full length, might not be possible for some attics. Then there is the issue of interference from the materials that are in the walls and the roof itself. The roof might have some aluminum siding, metal ducts, and other building materials that can interfere with the signal and weaken its range.

For some unexplained reason or another, an antenna will sometimes refuse to work in an attic even if it has excellent specifications. Even more surprising is the fact that your next door neighbor's attic-mounted antenna might work just fine, but if you were to use the same exact antenna and the same configuration, your antenna will refuse to work. Such incidences are unexplained, and there really is no solution to something like that but to either keep trying until you do get it or another antenna to work or to just give in and mount your antenna on your TV stand or on top of your roof.

This is not to say that it won't work for you. Again, it has worked for some homeowners, and it might just work for you. Give it a try when you purchase your new antenna, and you might just be pleased with the results.
