Fortunately, a high level of proficiency in search engine optimization isn't required to start getting a website fully optimized. It is true though that having a basic knowledge of how optimization works could serve you well as you continue to grow your Internet business. Just realize that knowing everything there is to know about search engine optimization wasn't the denominator that caused the current top website owners to be in the position in which they find themselves. They merely learned and capitalized on the three basic steps to search engine optimization.

The first step in search engine optimization is to produce a website that is rich in content. The more useful, informative, educational or entertaining your content is, the better. Your site will steadily grow in popularity as more traffic discovers that your site can be depended upon to always provide this rich content. Be careful only to use content from origins with the same general subject matter as your site. Fresh, new reviews, articles and editorials are great examples of rich content and you should be diligent in adding such content to your webpage often.

The second step to search engine optimization is to fill your site with keywords that will attract the web crawlers' attention. Remember that search engine web crawlers look at your words on the web pages, not your images. As you're composing your site's content, use specific keywords that best describe your organization, products or purpose. The more specific, the better. Since web crawlers look at keyword density as well as proximity, a good rule of thumb is to use your keywords quite often. Also, include as many specific keywords as possible because crawlers see these and will use them to find your site. Lastly, check out your competitors' websites that currently rank the highest, analyze their use of keywords and try to do better job yourself.

Choosing the search engine(s) that will be the right match to best optimize your site is the third step in search engine optimization. Too much hard work has gone into building that great webpage of yours for it to now sit idle in cyberspace because your potential customers doesn't know it exist. What search engines are the masses gravitating to in order to find the kinds of products and services you offer? This is what you need to find out to help determine which engine(s) your site should be a member of. With roughly 90% of all daily web searches originating at either Yahoo!, Google, AOL or MSN, you won't have to look too hard to find the likely candidates to submit your site to. A high page ranking on one or more these search engines will all but guarantee your success in search engine optimization.
